Visit Wausau’s Historic Grand Theater
Wausau’s Grand Theater started as an 890-seat Opera House in 1899, and was a popular place on the Midwest’s theatrical circuit. The original building no longer stands, because it was replaced by the new1470-seat Grand Theater in 1927. The classic revival-styled theater has been open ever since. The theater was fully restored in 1987, and in 2002 it was expanded to become what is known as Artsblock.
Today, the Grand Theater really does operate as one of the cornerstones of downtown Wausau, and continues to be a huge draw to our incredible community. There are over 300 performances held within these walls each year, and is definitely a must for guests staying at the Stewart Inn.
Upcoming Events at the Grand Theater
One of the most exciting upcoming events at Wausau’s Grand Theater is The Big Gig, which kicks off the Grand Theater’s 10×10 Series. The 10×10 Series is a wonderful local concert series built specifically to support Wisconsin’s own musicians. It’s an incredible opportunity for local Wisconsin musicians to perform, ultimately competing for the chance to headline one of the 10×10 shows later in the year. Finalists have been announced, so don’t hesitate to get your tickets to this incredible event.
Other upcoming big acts coming to Wausau’s Grand Theater include STOMP, The Violent Femmes, and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Also, if you haven’t yet seen Broadway’s amazing Kinky Boots, a second showing was just added at the Grand Theater in May, 2018. Get your tickets before they’re gone!
