Explore Rib Mountain State Park

During the winter months, Rib Mountain State Park is best known for its popular ski hill, Granite Peak Ski Area. It is one of the best ski resorts in the Midwest.  During the remainder of the year, Rib Mountain State Park is much beloved for its scenic beauty, trails, and scenic viewpoints.

Rib Mountain, the third tallest point in Wisconsin, is actually one of the oldest rock formations on earth, at an astounding 1.7 billion years old. In total, there are more than 13 miles of hiking trails within Rib Mountain State Park, some of them culminating with extraordinary views over the Wausau area and Wisconsin River, which at this time of year glow brightly in their brilliant autumnal hues. The Gray Trail will take you up to the 60-foot observation tower. From there, you’ll enjoy exceptional views of Wausau below.
