Experience the Arts in Wausau
Whether you’re here on a quick business trip or an extended stay, there’s plenty to do while you’re in Wausau. Our charming town is host to a variety of art-related festivals and events throughout the year, and also has incredible art museums, galleries, and theaters worth visiting while you’re in town. The Wausau Center for the Visual Arts features four distinct art galleries, each of which showcases incredible artworks from the artists of Central Wisconsin. They also participate in Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend, and sponsor the ChalkFest, which happened in July, 2017. The Stewart Inn is already booked for the upcoming Artrageous Weekend in September, 2017, but both of these events should stay on your radar for next year. They are incredible! In the meantime, stop in to their incredible galleries, and maybe even purchase local art from their gift shop to take home with you. It’s worth a visit every time you come to Wausau.
Wausau is also home to the renowned Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. It’s a beautiful place to explore at any time of year, but each September, the museum proudly displays the annual Birds in Art exhibit. Birds in Art has been on display every year since 1976, and features a comprehensive collection of contemporary artistic interpretations of birds. The 2017 Birds in Art exhibit opens to the public during Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend on September 9th, but will continue through November 26th.
Beyond those two incredible arts destinations, Wausau is also home to the Grand Theater, which is a beautifully restored theater from 1927. Throughout the year, it features Broadway shows, national touring acts and local productions and concerts. You should also consider visiting the Marathon County Historical Museum. The building itself is a work of art, and is an example of Prairie School style architecture made popular by George W. Maher. For more examples of this beautiful architectural style, wander the streets of the Stewart Inn’s very own neighborhood, the Andrew Warren Historic District. It won’t take you long to realize the town of Wausau itself is a pure work of art.
There’s a lot happening in the coming months. Book your room at the Stewart Inn Boutique Hotel today, and come celebrate the arts with us.
