  • The best nordic ski facility in Wausau is the Nine Mile County Forest Recreation Area.  there are 18.3 miles of trails that are double-tracked with an 8′ wide skating lane. Trail difficulty ranges across the trails, but there is definitely something for everyone. The ski chalet offers a changing area, ski and snowshoe equipment rentals, daily and annual trail passes, restrooms, and a spacious warming area with a wood stove. There are even lighted trails for some incredible night skiing an experience we can’t recommend in Wausau enough.
  • Beginners should test their skills at the Ringle Marsh, which features 3,000 acres of gently rolling terrain.
  • Sylvan Hill Park is home to the longest tubing run in the state, but it also happens to be a great place for beginners to test out their cross-country skiing. There are 3 miles of groomed trails here, and there’s a chalet on premise that offers a fireplace, bathrooms, and a place to rest.
  • The Big Eau Pleine Park Trail is better for those more experienced Nordic Skiers. There’s a scenic trail along the Eau Pleine Reservoir that features rolling and wooded terrain.
