Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend
Entrance to the Artrageous Weekend festivities, taking place on September 7 & 8, 2019, is free. The weekend involves four different venues. This year’s Arts in the Park at Marathon Park will feature more than 120 exhibitors. It’s the perfect place to shop for art and hand-crafted items. The Festival of Arts on 3rd street and the 400 block of downtown Wausau is the perfect place to pick up a piece of art from one of the 120 juried artists. Their artworks represent a variety of mediums, and there’s also live music on two stages, adding to the festive atmosphere of downtown Wausau. At the Center for the Visual Arts, you’ll find a Pottery Studio, the new Vault Gallery, and the Studio room. It’s an integral part of Wausau’s artistic community. Finally, at the Woodson Art Museum, visitors will enjoy the opening days of the annual Birds in Art Exhibit.
Birds in Art at the Woodson Art Museum
The biggest draw of the Artrageous Weekend in Wausau is the Birds in Art Exhibit, housed in the stunning Woodson Art Museum. Though the Birds in Art exhibit will be open throughout the fall months, closing for the year on December 1, 2019, the opening weekend provides you with the only chance to talk to the artists and watch their demonstrations. The exhibit itself includes over 100 carefully selected images of birds in their natural environments, each selected by a juried panel.
Each year, the Birds in Art Exhibit features a master artist. 2019’s master artist is British colored-pencil artist Alan Woollett. This will be his seventh time included in the Birds in Art Exhibit, and he’ll be onsite again this year answering questions and enjoying the honor of being selected as this year’s master artist.
