2018 Birds in Art Exhibit

Wausau hosts a variety of art-related festivals and events throughout the year, and also has incredible art museums, galleries, and theaters. They are all worth mentioning, but for now we’ll focus on the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.  It’s a beautiful place to explore at any time of year, but each September, the museum proudly displays the annual Birds in Art exhibit. The 2018 Birds in Art exhibit opens to the public during Wausau’s Artrageous Weekend on September Woodson Art Museum Birds in Art Exhibit in Wausau8th, but it will remain on display through November 25th, 2018.

Birds in Art has been on display every year since 1976, and features a comprehensive collection of contemporary artistic interpretations of birds. The Birds in Art exhibit features over 100 artistic works, which were selected by juried review in May. The art presented includes an innovative range of materials, including acrylic and oxidized sterling silver leaf, cut turkey feathers, oil, and cold wax on linen. Overall, the goal of the exhibit is to full capture the essence of birds and their habitats. Each year, a master artist is chosen. This year, that artist is Cindy House, a pastel artist whose works have been included in the Birds in Art exhibit 26 times.

If you’re interested in seeing these beautiful avian species in their natural habitats yourself, there’s plenty of opportunities for fall birding in Wausau, too. Book your room at the Stewart Inn Boutique Hotel today, and come celebrate the arts with us.
