The Stewart Inn a Wausau Hotel is a beautifully restored and comfortably furnished 1906 Prairie style mansion designed by George Maher, one of the founders of the American Arts and Crafts movement.  Featuring original chandeliers, sconces, decorative fireplaces and stained glass windows, the Stewart Inn is among the world’s most intact examples of George Maher’s architecture.

The Stewart Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places in Wausau and was the first property in Wausau to be accepted on the Register.  It is on the southwestern edge of the beautiful Andrew Warren Historic District where you will find the Cyrus Yawkey Museum and the Marathon County Historical Museum (both of which prominently feature George Maher’s architecture). Exceptional!

Beautiful, historic, comfortable, warm, elegant, welcoming — I could go on and on! Warmly welcomed by owner Randy upon arrival and given tour/history of home. Room was beautifully decorated and very spacious and comfortable– extremely luxurious sheets (wish I would have purchased a set!).

I was very impressed with the extras: fresh homemade choc chip cookies, a refrigerator full of complimentary soda and La Croix water, pillow menu options (who does that!!), a wine and cheese reception (I unfortunately could not attend). The room even had a Galaxy tablet I could use! There are many comfortable common areas offering Apple TV and stereo systems, (this is available in each room too!), fireplaces, books, games, dvds, and a lovely screened porch with swings.

I was sad my trip was just a quick overnight. The Stewart Inn is quite possibly the nicest B&B I’ve ever stayed in. I will find a reason to return. Thank you!
