While the weather is still nice, head to Rib Mountain State Park, where you can enjoy a peaceful hike, just the two of you. There are 13 miles of trails to explore, and plenty of places to enjoy a romantic picnic if you so choose. Fall is particularly stunning here, as the trees change to their vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. The Observation tower is an excellent place to steal a kiss, and enjoy the view. If you’d rather stay indoors, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum is a wonderful choice. Their famous “Birds in Art” exhibit is a “must-see” this fall. If you’re in the mood for a little pampering, enjoy a unique spa experience at Hot Waters Spa. Their secluded outdoor whirlpools are surrounded by scenic woodlands, setting the perfect stage for a relaxing and romantic moment.
As day to turns to night, there is no more classic date-night combination than dinner and a movie–although we’d suggest seeing a performance at the Grand Theater rather than a movie. The Theater itself is extraordinarily beautiful, and the performances are always delightful. From there, head to the Lil Ole Winemaker Shoppe, and pick up a bottle or two for later, before doing a little browsing around Wausau’s popular 3rd street.
